Book Updates

Most of the people who have shared with me they have read Death in Travelers Rest have communicated to me the following two sentiments: 1) They couldn’t put it down. 2) When will the sequel be coming out?

I am flattered by such responses, without a doubt, but I must say, it certainly adds pressure to the writing process. I don’t know how George R. R. Martin does it. I only have one murder mystery and a handful of readers, and it pains me to delay the sequel writing process. It would absolutely kill me to disappoint millions of fans for over a decade. All that money probably assuages the guilt, I’m guessing.

But, I want my handful of readers to know, despite having a very busy full-time job as a pastor for Renovation Church, I am doing my best to keep writing. I know the full plot of the sequel to Death in Travelers Rest, and I have written the first few chapters. My goal is to keep carving out a few hours each weekend to add to the manuscript.

Unfortunately, for my murder mystery readers, I also feel a strong call to write a book for my church. So, some of my writing time has been dedicated to fleshing it out. It is my goal to have the rough drafts of both books completed before the end of 2025. While it might seem counterintuitive to write two books at the same time, I find bouncing back and forth between fiction and nonfiction writing to be a helpful deterrent to writer’s block. It’s easy to get bogged down and stuck in a book, but when you have an entirely different type of book to think about, it can keep the creative juices flowing.

I will continue to give progress updates on these two books, along with releasing more specific details about the content of the books, through these blog posts.
